Sydney Trip-Blue Mountains

Day 4
Blue Mountains, as my 4th day started i guess weather wasn’t really something on top of my mind.I decided just to put on a simple blouse and some skinny jeans, definitely not forgetting my jacket. It didn’t hit me that going to the mountains meant another new level to the coldness i’ve gotten to know since i’ve been in sydney. The realisation started to hit when i couldn’t sleep in the train, that my friends is bad news because it can only get colder outside despite the sunny looking skies.

Jumping off the train at Katoomba Station,my body started to shiver and i meant really shiver, teeth chattering that kind. Then i remembered that i’d checked the day before and normally the temperature recorded at the mountains are around 4 degrees, someone forgot to warn me about the wind!Determined to not have that spoil my trip,it was all the way mind over matter.Jeremy and I got our Explorer Bus pass as planned.Ready for our round trip around the mountains.

We decided to hop in to get hot coffee to fend off the weather and we chanced upon this.
I had the yummiest lemon meringue cupcake ever. Not too sweet unlike many others I’ve had.

First stop was the Scenic Skyway that connected one cliff to another. While waiting for the cablecar,we decided to explore the area.

Found this little plaque

We saw paths leading to who knows where but decided to explore somemore and ended up at a waterfalll.Little did i know that those paths are actually what they call bushwalking trails.
From there on,it was Scenic Cableway down to the valley and more trails to explore. We decided to take the longer route as we figured out that it only takes half the time stated in the maps.

First view of the 3 sisters
Knock knock any coal miners there?A modest glimpse of the valleyThe Scenic Cableway

Goin up was a whole diff story,we boarded the Scenic Railway which had a maximum incline of 52 degrees. It was like a death entrapment for those with the fear of heights.

This was the orginal one they used back in those times for coal miners.

Out off the valley and on to the bus to the next stop,Echo Point. It was a baron point with nothing to block the view of the whole valley which was just magnificant. The only thing was, there was nothing to block the wind as well. When people say the wind can really blow you away, they weren’t kidding.I literaly had to stop moving when the wind blows. Curiosity got the best of me and i suggested following some steps down to another trail. It was just a 10minute trail to the next lookout point. What’s the harm right? The harm came when i got too carried away when i saw a sign saying Katoomba Falls.

View along the way
After 30minutes,we reached the same point where we first boarded the Scenic Skyway and the waterfall was nowhere to be seen.Disappointment was stacking when we found out that the next bus was the last one, that meant that we couldn’t make anymore stops. All we had left to do was enjoy the mountain along the bus ride.Sigh

A last minute change of plans did see us off to a 6 storey cinema call The Edge on the second last stop.Since we’ve been walking the whole day might as well finish off walking again after the movies.Cinema was huge ,definitely cool enough to watch a movie but we only caught the documentary on Blue Mountains.Thank goodness it offered shelter from the rapidly dropping temparatures as the sun was already setting.Getting back to Katoomba Station was like an endurance race, walking uphill at the same time against the gushing wind and worst of all, waiting for the traffic light to turn green in the cold.

Dinner wasn’t much of a plan,it was a split second decision to drop by Starthfield Station and grab whatever was available. If i could name it myself,Strathfield would be Little Koreantown. There were so many Korean restaurants around and at that time i wasn’t particularly very fond of korean food.I tried my best to choose one that was more commercial looking in hope of western influences.Silly me,the meal i had totally changed my view on korean food,i was told that i had the most basic of korean food. What is Korean food without Kimchi?Jeremy’s infatuation with Wooly’s got us into another supermarket trip which was so conveniently available everywhere. While he went stocking up on food,i took a tour down the meat section, boy was it a long trip.Never had i seen so many slices of cut meat on display.

As you can imagine, slept like a baby that night after using up all the energy to psych myself to mentally block out the cold and definitely all the walking.Best thing was, piece of mind without having to plan for the next day as it was souvenir shopping day.
