1..2..Smile,Professionally
Date:25 th Mac 2008 , Tuesday
Time :2.00pm++ slighty after lunch time.
Just when you think that life in the marketing department can't get more exciting, my boss suddenly came out from her room announcing that she needs a leng chai or leng lui for a photoshoot.Alarmed, cos the rest of the staff only had 2 hours to secure someone who would be able to come in late in the afternoon, they started throwing suggestions to go thru the Prestige ( a database that contains all the details of IMU students). But that would take ages. Then my boss just turned over to ask if i knew anyone but before i could even think of anything, she suggested that i do it. (Er...me ar?) My colleague had to support the idea by saying i'm not bad lar.Alright maybe it's the hair..new look mar. When my boss ask again as a sign of courtesy, another one of my funny colleague said i had no choice cos they pay me..Huhu..forced into my little cubicle corner.
Come 4.30pm it was photo time. After a whole 2 and a half years in my little uni, i never knew they had a photostudio.Anyone wanna guess where it is?There were two others that were thrown into the same situation as well cos they were hand picked international 'leng chai' students.Haha.I felt kinda relieved for some reason or another when i recognise one of them as my junior, Eric whom i played tennis with. The other guy whom i never quite got his name was a new dentistry student with a smile that could swallow you whole.
Being someone who is normally behind the camera,it was a little difficult for me to pose in front of a flashing DSLR.My boss was hilarious though, she's like an artistic director giving out instructions: serious look, smile but look professional, natural, angle, arms folded. With that many adjectives involved,Eric and i concluded that it was easier just to be a medical student rather then model.Thank goodness she abandoned the idea of having us pose in front of the atrium.Damn weird if that were to happen.Super center of attention. It was already interesting enough when we did an outdoor take that involved flying debris looking like CO2.
Well the ad is for publishing in Singapore..so no..you guys don't get to see it unless you're Lion people.
Ps: Damn lot of perks working in marketing.I'm happy with no regrets.
Souvenirs from the photoshoot.Going for lion effect
Finally got the new lanyard eventhough i'm not a student anymore
My colleague Kai Li,bought Big Apple on the way back from school exhibition.Yay.

Reasons to be happy
medical student wasn't helping either cos my interviewer did imply that i had to be serious with this job as some people considered it a carrier while i just took it as any other part time job to kill time.So it's good to know someone like me can also get as Sales Advisor job.Yay.Thanks Michelle and Ming for believing in me when i didn't.I guess it's just the courage to do something different sometimes.
But,but..yes there is a but, i rejected the job offer after considering a few things.
1.Biggest obstacle,it's a 6 day a week job.I'm already feeling restricted by the current 5 day one and just when i'm beginning to like it another option pops up.
2.Doesn't matter that it pays better,i'll have to travel.
3.I don't think my flat feet can handle the standing for a whole day.
Despite all that, i do think that it would have been a great experience since i have never had a proper job before my marketing position. So,felt it was a lil wasted since someone in their right state of mind decided to give me a chance. Thanks Topshop but it came lil too late.Would have considered it if i was jobless.
Anyway,i got my hair fixed.Called dad to report my disaster hair condition and he came to bring me to a hair salon.Yay.After a disappointing turn around Sri Petaling since it was late evening.I found a shop in The Store.I was too busy asking if they could help me that i forgot to see the store name.Thank goodness they could converse in a mix of cantonese and english.I don't think i could have expressed my desperate situation to them in full cantonese. They were really nice people.I paid RM10 but got 3 people to teach me to do my hair and explain to me the 101's on buying styling products. Two words...I SUCK at buying products.Apparently the products i've been buying doesn't help my hair to stand it just gives it gloss.Seriously the last thing i need is gloss. My hair is super flat that normal clay doesn't work..i would need to go get a brand called Sebastian or Ice Spikey and normal hair spray also doesn't work..need extra hold.So much work to be stylo lar.Might return to my straight long hair sooner then i expect. But this is what came out of the styling session.
Shopping Frenzie
Well it started off with innocently accompanying Shian Yi for a hair cut but in the end i was tempted into getting one as well. It's been so long since i did something drastic with my hair.So i told the stylist i want the stylo, stylo one lar. This is how it looked like YESTERDAY.Today it's just a disaster (panic, frustrated, sad, sobbing),i dunno how to style it.This is the first time i ever had a really bad hair day since my mushroom hair days..Huhu.Anyone can offer help??
Back on track, there was some Cosplay thing going on in Times Square. This guy is pretty cool.He really looked the part, played the part and walk the part. After that it was Pavilion here I come. But on the way there, those 2 cars caught my attention.Guess F1 week is back.
Besides that, we got a street flyer advertising this thing called Uhuhu.Together with it was a voucher for a free cheesecupcake. We really judged a book by it's cover and since it had such a cheesie name we laughed it off and Karen even dumped the flyer away.It was during lunch that we realise that it was actually a new creation from THE LOAF.Later in the evening, we tried the durian and green tea cheesecake.OMG they are simply out of the world.I so recommend this, when they say it's durian,no kidding, really taste like durian and the green tea was superbly covered with green tea powder too and there was a suprise addition of white choc at the base.
the very durian like tasting cheesecakei like this free sample coupon.pwetty
Shopping was crazy, everything was on sale,at least that was what my eyes registered.Nearly spent a fortune there.I finally got my new favourite purple top from Topshop that i've been looking for, for a month.I'm ecstatic. However at the end of my splurging spree, what baffles me is not the part where i like everything i see,it's the part that i so easily part with my money.I'm kinda worried now, i feel that i have changed since i started working. Is it making me too liberal with my decisions?Have i lost my sense of judgement?Or is it just the fact that i needed a one time release since i have been on a tight leach lately?I just can't tell.Whatever it is, all this was an after though after the initial damage had been done. All i can say is i feel guilty but i don't regret any of my buys.Hehe.
Dinner at Ichiban Boshi. My religious must haves
Soft shell skin crab roll
Unagi lar..apa lagi
Shian Yi and May Wen had the really cool cod fish and BBQ beef.
Tak jadi watch movie cos public transport doesn't stretch overnight. But we caught a glimpse of a few artiste at the F1 party at Sungei Wang on the way back.I told someone that the black guy with the big gold bling bling was definitely not local and indeed i was right...I found out it was the Grammy Award Winning group All Four One.Still super tired from yesterday.Yawn.Might go find help for my hair after nappie.

Seremban Trip
After we finished sight seeing in the house and everyone was fully awake plus the arrival of our beloved Kher Dee and Wei Long. They decided that the coolest place to bring us to was, suprise suprise, Jusco in Seremban 2.Er..so brunch was
my fav kind...Lamb!!Purple drink(Siaw's)...Thanks Paul for borrowing your t-shirt to emphasise the purple-ness
Then it was roaming around shopping and bumping into people like Sidney.Yay penangite.
Since we had nothing to do, we decided we should make a visit to Kher Dee and Wei Loong's place. However, before that we watched the guys down max 3 donuts each in less then 5 minutes. And that was after brunch.I've never seen a box of Big Apple Donuts get wiped out so fast.Obviously i couldn't resist and helped myself to an Iceberg donut as well.
Guess who we met in the house?Sebby!Kevin!and Hazwan! And Jenna of course, cos she lives there. But only manage to get Sebby in the pic.
Did i mention their place was twice the size of the hilltop house?Besar gileer. So big that this little bird tot it might as well take up some of the space
And have a family of it's own
while i lounge on the newly arrived sofaWhen we get bored, we find more food to eat.Next stop?
Cendol place...
How was it?Then...I sat in a car driven by our newest licensed driver.
After we were done.We went back to the hilltop house and was entertained by Prasad,Yih Seong,Mustaq and Siaw ...TRYING to do the Souljaboy dance. For those who haven't watched it before..this is it.
We chao-ed after dinner. But i have to mention Yih Seong made a great toast..
It went out to People in Seremban,People Working(Siaw and myself),People going to PMS and also all our family members who would have liked to be there with us but couldn't.Awww...touching.

Fighting The Temptation....Lost battle
I ordered My FAvvvvvv Triple PLay
And this to become more intelligent as Chow and Ivy used to sayWhile Mustaq had this...so tempting..like a melting volcano with the ice cream gushing out with each slash of the spoon..And Sleeping Beauty had his huge burgerKinda felt really guilty after all the eating. Therefore,I got Ben and headed for a late night gym session. It was the first time ever that i actually used the gym room.Ironic that it has to be after my course ended.Might actually frequent it.Anyway, did everything i wanted so..happy ending.
Ps: Totally unrelated. My bro got us a new dog.Apparently he named it Honey as well after our lost dog.And it looks the same too in the pictures but i have yet to see it in real life.So excited...i wanna rush home.

Acustomed to work
Asides from work,no basketball today due to terrible tunderstorm.Something funny and sweet happened though.Met a friend on the way out, he just said
"Hey can you do me a favour?"
Me:Yea sure.
Friend: Can you please not go jogging at 12midnight?It's very dangerous.
Couldn't respond after that,i didn't know anyone saw me going for a jog except for some old uncles doing karaoke in the park.Anyway,it's nice to know people care.Thank you and next time i'll go earlier.10pm??
Not looking forward to tomorrow. The fact that i have a meeting with the lecturers regarding the research project is not getting me excited at all.Can you blame me?It's been 5 weeks since i came back to Bukit Jalil. Most of the time we just talk and there is no hands on.I just wish that it'll just start but i'm not putting my hopes high.Only the thought of playing with cute mice is keeping my spirits going.Feeing really torn inside.I have totally lost focus to why i'm still doing it.

HIRED
I shall list out my job description thus far
a) photocopying(daily obligation)
First task-since it's marketing,i had to photocopy newspaper ads spanning from 2006 till current date for the IMEC conference.Took me half a day at that plus the copier wasn't very friendly on my first day.Didn't end there. They are super yim chim, can't have any other unrelated ads included and since i'm the newbie..no one told me that.Darn, had to redo. The big bomb came when my boss told my supervisor she actually wanted 3 copies.Ding ding...back to photocopying step 1.I finally completed my first task in 1 and a half days after making uncountable mistakes like binding ads upside down.Well guess i was never really good at tedious jobs.I kinda pity my supervisor kak wati for having to be my babysitter..sorry.Good news is i can handle the copier like a pro already,i'm friends with it now.Even taught a few lecturers to use it.Aha..
b)packing goodie bags consisting imu brochures
Did you know that imu now has 11 courses to offer ?
namely medicine,pharmacy,nursing,dentistry,pharmaceutical chemistry,biomedical sciences,medical biotechnology,psychology,nutrition and dietetics,master of science,PhD
Now you know.When i entered,there were only 2.Talk about cha-ching..$
c)pack for roadshows
And no, not only did they have one but they have 5 running simultaneously. The poor drivers had to drive to and fro kl convention centre about 5 times just to send all the equipment and brochures there.
d)data entry
it's amusing what people write in those enquiry forms.some even try to promote themself in the hope that someone might acually take notice.well i did but too bad for them i can't decide their fate in the interviews.
e)Faxing invitations to schools+ calling telekom helpline about 50 over times.
Did you know that telekom has a helpline at 103?You can probably get any number listed from them but the problem is only one request at a time.So imagine if you wanted the number of like say 50 over schools?Enuff said.In the end, i found out that what i was doing was a total waste of time .It was the school holidays and the assignment was overdue by a week.Hmm nice to know.
f)Answering phones
Everyone was out for roadshows somewhere on friday, so i was finally bestowed an admirable job of answering the calls for both Marketing and Admissions, sometimes even Student Affairs too. Most of them were inquiries for the new intake in IMU.When i was watching the days before the job looked so simple,i thought it was no problem, just talk nia mar.Little did i know,my esteem colleagues are really pro counselors. They can talk and laugh with parents while giving advise while i will be scrambling away looking for some kind of help from my boss to answer all the questions that they throw at me.Got scolded once by a parent cos she called so many times and no one answered, had to listen to a guy calling from Melbourne pleading with me for 20mins to help him secure an interview on a certain date.I was seriously very sympathetic about his situation but what can i do?In the end,i just figured i would just save myself the trouble by telling them i'm just a temp staff and they can call back the next week to get proper guidance.Super kan chiong the whole day.So afriad i would disappoint.
g)Reading newspaper
Yes you read that correctly, part of my job involves reading the newspaper to look for articles related to IMU.This one is my favourite actually.
If i had to sum it all in 2 words..i would call myself office girl lar..what else??Luckily don't have to make coffee, they do that themselve.Thank goodness.
I am so sien at my job that i felt really dumb and maybe my IQ dropped 10points each time i had to do photocopying.I was super tired that i crash in front of my com everytime i got home eventhough i didn't do much.Feeling antisocial cos i'm stuck in an office the whole day and i have to sleep early,no more mamak session with the rest of the left over family members. But i'm gonna make sure i stick with the job as long as they need me no matter how much i have to complain cos it pays well.I need to remind myself to grow up and be responsible for myself and the choices i make.Sometimes i wonder if i take thing for granted, that's why i always do what i like.Looking back,i always willingly take on responsibilities ...first was SRC, then it's the silly research that won't take off.According to my bro's calculations...working for free is a very silly thing.Waste time, energy and money. Can't say i disagree but somehow i just end up doing it.
Anyway,Michelle has left for penang, miss talking to her online already.Hope she's doing well in my hometown.Pg rockss...hehe.It's like a mini KL.It has everything to offer except lrt maybe. But it's coming soon.Wonder how a new DAP state would feel like.
I found out something quite disheartening too today. An ex-collegue from my student council had to switch from partner medical school to seremban clinical school. It's really a pity cos i know for a fact that he's a pretty smart chap and a really really nice guy too.Darn, sometimes thing are pretty out of control.Even though you might have a good sponsor and think everything is sealed but it might backfire as well when mix ups happen.

Doctors are the worse patients?
On the contrary to his advise, i travelled to Kamal bookstore with Ben and Mus yesterday. Then headed on to Sungei Wang to help Mus pick out a really cool watch.Went back to Sri Petaling, headed on to The Store since Mus's futsal session was canceled and picked out a new specs for him. Walked back all the way, went for another walk in the park then to 7-e and then basketball for a few hours before we head to mamak and walked back from it.At the end of it, i felt like i went for a 20km marathon.Doesn't help that the nagging pain reminds me of my injured foot.I guess i'm not really good at following doctors orders. But it's every one of these days full of adventure that cures me of my boredom of waiting for the research to start or even for the HR in imu to clear me for work.
Hoping to play volleyball tomorrow and badminton on saturday...
I miss my purple phone which is currently in Sony Ericsson's sick bay in Penang.

Fruitful Visit
A job doing research that doesn’t come with a pay cheque is difficult to sit well with the family. Been having a tough time convincing people that I’m actually doing something useful but I guess I don’t have that persuasive power especially if I’m debating with my bro. He’s like the ultimate veto power. So I decided to do something about my condition and look for a part-time job(with a salary) that will still allow me to carry on with the research. Sounds impossible rite? I might have done the impossible. I went to the Education Fair in
Goodies from Education Fair : Carrot Cupcake for filling up survey with KDU, Cool flip pen from MMU and Cute star shape highlighter form UTP
Feasting on home made sushi for dinner..plus healthy cup of green tea...Yummy
Nice kan?...Beginning to feel like a pro after i practiced so many time plus a new creation of chicken floss covered reverse maki.
